I have always been an incredibly active person. I’ve always loved taking new athletic classes like yoga and spin and trying activities such as going hiking or bike riding. As a second grade teacher, I have to be able to keep up with the children in my class and maintain a productive and energized classroom community.

About a year and half ago, I started experiencing extreme back pain. It was so bad that it inhibited my abilities to sit and stand comfortably. When the pain would hit me, I wasn’t able to straighten my back and simple tasks such as putting on my own shoes and getting into a car became excruciatingly painful.

After visiting my doctor and getting an MRI taken of my back, I learned that I had a degenerative disc. Discs act as shock absorbers for the vertebrae in the spine and since my disc was deteriorated it no longer provided me with a cushion. While this condition is common and affects about 85 percent of the population by the time they turn 50, I was only 30 years old and in extreme pain. Oral pain medication didn’t help ease the pain and doctors were recommending back surgery.

Then I started going for acupuncture and my world changed. Acupuncture eased my pain and helped me become a stronger and happier person. The acupuncture process helps relax my body and brings me peace of mind. Prior to starting to acupuncture, I’d wake up each morning scared to open my eyes and move because I wasn’t sure whether or not the pain was going to ruin my day. Now I can wake up each day feeling positive that I have the strength to do all the activities I love most. Acupuncture has really helped me live an active, pain free life. I highly recommend it!
