According to U.S. National Library of Medicine, infertility is when a woman cannot get pregnant.

Infertility afflicts more than 6 million American couples. It can either refer to women who have not become pregnant after at least 1 year of having sex without birth control methods, or to those who have been able to get pregnant at least once, but are now unable.

The success rates for IVF and IUI procedures range from 25% to 40%. However, when the treatments are combined with acupuncture, the rates dramatically increase to the ranges of 50% to 75%.

Cause of Infertility

For females… irregular ovulation, blocked fallopian tubes, abnormalities in cervix or uterus, and hormonal imbalance.

For males… low sperm count, poor sperm motility, malformed sperm, and blocked sperm ducts.

In about 40% of infertile couples, the cause is traced to the man, and the other 40% is attributed to the woman. The remaining 20% is attributed to unknown causes.

Infertility Treatments

Depending on the cause of infertility, doctors may suggest different types of treatment methods. Some of them include fertility drugs, intrauterine insemination (IUI), and in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Limitations of Western Infertility Treatments

Not only are infertility treatments very costly, but they are also known for painful side effects. If the treatments become a burden – physically, emotionally, or financially – doctors suggest other options.

Acupuncture Theory on Infertility

According to the principles of Oriental Medicine, a person’s health condition is determined by the balance of Qi and blood, the vital life energies circulating through the body. So Acupuncture and Oriental herbal medicine can strongly influence the reproductive and endocrine systems by inducing a particular effect on the body.

Treatment Focus

For women… the treatment focuses on increasing blood flow to the uterus and ovaries, thickening the uterine lining, lessening the side effects of drugs used in Western medical treatments such as IVF, and balancing the endocrine system.

For men… the treatment focuses on improving the quality, quantity, and motility of sperm by reducing the effects of stress and enhancing hormonal activities.

Treatment Methods

It relieves stress while improving sperm quality, enhancing the blood flow to the uterus, normalizing ovulation, and boosting IVF success rates.

Herbal Medicine

Its holistic, individualized, and whole body health approach allows any type of infertility condition to be treated. Herbal medicine relieves stress and harmonizes the hormones and nervous system to increase the rate of pregnancy.
